Black Rock Desert - 2006
Alone in the Desert
I wanted to find out what the Black Rock Desert is like when Burning Man is not happening. Burning Man is so alive, but when you go to the trash fence you see this vast area of empty. I'm drawn to empty. So I wanted to go there without all the other humans and find out how empty it really is.
In June of 2006 I drove out there to find out.
What I found out is that this desert, like all deserts, is not as empty as the casual observer might think. I found insects, birds, deer, and people (and a dead rabbit.. he didn't make it). I found a lake (that moves - beware) and about a million trout (well, not in the desert). I was not able to walk into the lake to see the brine shrimp that supposedly occupy the lake when it exists.
There was still snow on the mountains, and activity at the Burning Man Ranch. And other campers in the desert.
I was able to shoot time-exposures of the stars, and if I ever FIND those photo's again I will post them. In the mean time, here are my pictures undocumented. I'll document them in the future.
