various parts of the world such as Italy, Ireland, and
Germany (where they were burnedby the Nazis).
In California in 1960, The Sun Also Rises was banned
from schools in San Jose and all of Hemingway’s works
were removed from Riverside school libraries.
In 1962, a group called Texans for America opposed textbooks
that referred students to books by the
